Let’s talk beverages.
We’re going to start out with two drinks: both are iced, cool, and definitely refreshing after a long day. The only difference is one is Pepsi (or Coke if you prefer) and one is water. We choose what we drink daily. Whatever we choose it will affect us; whether for good or bad, to make us healthy or more likely to be sick… what we put into our bodies will manifest at some point.
Now for some reason most people choose the fizzy soda-pop over the water our bodies so heavily crave. We give into our taste buds rather than consider what it is doing to us. It looks, tastes, and feels good. So we drink it. Could we go so far as to say this is the world’s choice of drink? Yes, we’ll call this sin.
Some however choose water. They know the benefits of water, they know the taste of the fresh spring water, and they crave this drink as much as their body needs it. Let’s say this drink is the choice of a born again believer.
However there’s another reason that the follower of Christ would choose the water… one who is filled with Holy Spirit has had the revelation of what the “Pepsi” really is because He has opened their eyes to the truth.
What is this truth? That the drink Satan has managed to make you believe is refreshing soda-pop is really: what's left in a port-a-john at the end of a busy fair day.
Gross, right? The thing is with this truth revealed no one would continue to drink of this sin, unless they were still deceived. It’s too repulsive. Sin is repulsive. Someone with this truth would let their glass shatter and start throwing up.
Just because someone says a prayer and walks around doing everything right in a church building, does not mean that they are holding a glass of water in their hand. It doesn’t mean that water is what they are drinking.
Yes, there are people who say they are one thing and their actions don’t follow suit. The Bible says we know them by their fruits; well if you don’t understand that, we could also say that we know them by their choice of beverage. Are they going along with the world? Blinded despite what they have supposedly confessed?
When someone’s really drinking the water of the Holy Spirit, it can’t be hidden. Because they are alive and they have joy! They can dance and sing and laugh… they can worship through a hard time, even when it hurts. They have endurance. All because they choose to love on God and hear when He says “You see that drink? It’s toxic. I don’t want you to touch it” and they listen.
We have lost our SALTINESS. We STOPPED making the world THIRSTY for WHAT WE HAVE (Matthew 5:13, Luke 14:34). Why? Because so many walk around with coffee cups and lids; saying that they are Christians and yet they take their lid off when they leave the church building to join in with everyone else. They have no energy to even try acting like the Christians they mean to be because of what they are putting in their body; sometimes all they have the strength to do is say “God’s in control, right?” and paste a half-hearted smile on their face. Well hey any person of the world can do that too!
And tell me… why would the world want what they already have?
Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
