Entertainment

I'm not asking anybody to agree with me, I know what God has brought to my attention and asks that these not be my words but His. If you're going to read, read prayerfully. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thank you. --

Now I've known about what entertainment can do to Holy Spirit instead of us (it grieves Him soo badly), and I know what it does in general. We've talked about it in youth camp, in bible study, and I've even talked about it one on one with a couple people. I know what happens like the back of my hand when we sit down in the late afternoon to watch a show and when we look up -- oops! it's almost midnight, guess I'll have to get up earlier tomorrow to make up for the hours I missed that I could've been lost in God's presence... then of course we end up sleeping in. While I guarantee that happens often, I can tell you it's a whole lot scarier than that. When we sit down something happens... at first we may be on guard, but we as watch the television set our guards come down. We sit there basically dumb for the next several hours.

Do you know how often we're warned to be SOBER in this hour?? (1 Corinthians 15:34, 1 Thessalonians 5:6, 1 Thessalonians 5:8, 2 Timothy 4:5, 1 Peter 1:13, 1 Peter 4:7 for starters.)

Something changes when you stay away from this for awhile though... the more you stay away from the world's favorite pass-time the more something begins to happen: you become clearer, more discerning.

If you were to stay away from your favorite TV show for a month and you sat back down... you'd immediately start picking up on the things you know are wrong. You know, the same thing goes for music. Christian and secular alike, they can be extremely draining... I'm talking about the Christian music that's basically secular except for the clean music.. you really need to look at the artist's lives, because what they do can easily taint their music (1 Corinthians 5:6, Galatians 5:9). Even worship songs: know the artists.

The entertainment business, from Hollywood to Nashville, is all Satan's territory, and if he can get you sucked in... let me tell you he's got you right where he wants you.

If any of you have the time (and seeing as you're on here talking about your latest heartbreak, friend trouble, or just talking to others, I'd hope you can take some time out) to read this: The Epidemic of Prophectic Presumption Due to Entertainment

It's written by a Holy Ghost filled man who God has put in the office of a prophet (not prophecy, which is a gift of the Holy Spirit, prophet, there is a difference). 1 Corinthians 12:28. I can say this because my church is connected with him personally, we know his lifestyle and we know he is the real deal; not some pathectic prophectic guy.

I can tell you firsthand how dangerous it is. I stay away from TV; only the last two nights my sister and I found ourselves there. Last night was my wake-up call. We watched TLC, generally a good channel; then they have stuff on like NY or LA Ink, or Tattoo School.... any of you know what I'm talking about? God has told us not to mark our bodies; His temples! (Leviticus 19:28John 2:211 Corinthians 6:19). So I know the stuff about that too... I watched it anyway. I looked at my sister as two husbands came on the screen at one point and said "We can't watch this anymore, they support homosexuality." You know what? We should've turned it off that second.

So was that all? Is that as bad as it got? A bad feeling in the pit of my stomach? No. I know about this stuff, and because I know it is my responsibility to act accordingly. I woke up last night around quarter to 3am from some terrible dreams and couldn't get back to sleep for the next half hour. That was after rebuking whatever spirits Satan had sent my way, telling them to leave my house, reading my Bible and putting on [legit] worship. Why? Because TV in general brings our guards down (as I mentioned earlier), so even when we don't want to be watching something, we can't stop it... because our guards are down. Not only that but watching stuff that is not Biblical and anti-Christ opens the doors for demons to come in and torment us.

This stuff is real. It's not some horror movie. There is a devil and he has angels of darkness, and his goal in life is to see that you spend eternity being tortured in Hell (Matthew 13:50, 24:51, 35:30). Does it sound like something I want to scare people with? No, but if you feel convicted then good.* Maybe you'll start running towards God instead of standing in lukewarmness which is just as good to Satan then if you were lost in gross sin (Revelation 3:16).

Remember- Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
-1 Peter 5:8 (NASB)

And don't be scared of out your socks... TAKE HEART- For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
